More Kodansha reactions; Plans for AX

Further commentary on Kodansha: Comics Worth Reading on potential deviations from traditional price points.  Lucky Gia gets a call back from Kodansha… something I never got in my high school years.  David Welsh, writing for The Comics Reporter, reminds everyone that as far as market share is concerned, foreign-controlled manga/manhwa pubs have long been the rule, not the exception.

MangaBlog notes Otaku USA, the magazine that can mix anime, manga, video game, and toy coverage without disparaging its readers with sarcasm, has remodelled its website.

Speaking of Otaku USA, I managed to snag the newest one a week early because we have an ad in the issue.  Boss.

The fact that there is a porn anime with the bastardized title of Study-A-Broad makes me want to run over small woodland critters, then hide their mangled carcasses in children’s lunch boxes.

Missed it… PWCW featured an artcle by SLG editor Jennfier De Guzman on the flip side of creators rights: small publishers who do use “equitable” contracts often end up being a stepping stone for creators to bigger publishers.  To that I would ask, should publishers have any expectation to share in the spoils beyond what was contracted for, i.e. the publication profits of the book itself?  Hurt feelings aside, traditional book publishers by and large seem to harbor no such notions of entitlement.  (Caught it: Journalista)

Lastly, with Anime Expo coming up in mere hours, I’d like to go over with you my plans during the most important anime/manga industry event in America:

  • Finish Comic AG issue 86.
  • Visit the Denver Botanic Gardens.
  • Spray Round-Up on 3000 square feet of lawn (which is absolutely gorgeous right now, the greenest it’s been in ages… but I promised myself I’d do this.)
  • Try a Steakhouse burger from Burger King, because I think I’m special.
  • Watch Futurama: The Beast with a Billion Backs.
  • Install new hard drives.  Make DVD backups of past month’s work.
  • Fix a fence.
  • Read Welcome to the NHK 6, then probably complain about how it’s dragging.
  • Scan the last half of Blue Eyes 4.

Excitement!  Enjoy your Independence Day, folks.

Media Blasters/Kitty Media (and a few others, but mostly MB/KM) has been doing this ever since _The Duchess of Busty Mounds_ (. See my lists here:

  3. Oh, and right, Jennifer de Guzman is a super pompous bitch. I’d hoped it wouldn’t be the case… but there you go.

    MAYBE SHE’LL DIE IN A FIRE! :D

  4. While I enjoyed Billion Backs, I have a feeling it’s going to be the “That’s Lobstertainment!” of this set of movies.
