Holy smokes… Comics212 reports that Diamond will *de-list* over 1000 Viz manga volumes, once current stocks are exhausted. Comics212 has the complete, stream-of-expletive-inducing list.
I’m assuming this applies to DCD, and that Diamond Book Distributors may still keep these items available. Maybe. I believe DCD *owns* their books, while DBD, as a book market distributor, does not, hence no inventory taxes. So getting rid of DCD stock would make Diamond leaner. But I don’t know. This is madness, madnessss!
Hmm… well, the Naruto manga trades are not on that list, so I guess we don’t need to break out the straightjackets just yet. But seeing manga like I”S, Prince of Tennis, and Vagabond on there just makes me sad. And I always thought books like Eagle and Golgo 13 did better in the direct market than bookstores. I suppose there’s a possibility that some of those books are simply going out of print. Either way, this is sobering…

You know, there’s one potential Diamond-related fallout that hasn’t been considered much yet… if fewer small press comics are offset printed as more creators opt for POD, or fewer books get additional printings, how much would offset printers be hurt by this? Most small press comics printing in North America are handled by a few key companies. So even publishers who sell well above the minimums may still feel some indirect effects, if printers are forced to spread the pain.

MangaBlog gets the straight dope about Yotsuba&! from Yen Press’ Kurt Hassler. So it was all just a waiting game for the license to expire? Sigh. Why you do this, ADV? (T_T)
Semi-related… MangaCast has the covers of the Yen license pick-ups, including the manga version of Spice and Wolf drawn by Komei Keito…
Oh no, first Sundome, now Spice and Wolf? I think Yen might be entering ero manga as well. Dameeeeee~~~!

ANN has direct confirmation from Viz that Marc Weidenbaum has left the company, but speaks not of the status of its original publishing program.

The moral of this story… keep your figure collection in the dungeon until you put a ring on her finger.

Semi-related… the face sculpts on the Coraline bendies are random, so if you buy them online, they might not match the pictures. The three-doll set may have the exact same faces as the ones sold individually. I ended up with basically two identical sets. =(

Semi-semi-related… I shouldn’t have revealed that I have the Coraline bendies, should I? Fudge.

Calling Spice and Wolf an eromanga is a bit of a stretch. ;)
