Brandon Graham’s King City, imo one of the highlights of the first wave of output from Tokyopop’s OEL program, will be reissued in 32-page American serial comic format.
This is quite interesting on a couple levels… the comics are being published by Image, with Tokyopop co-branding, and I don’t recall having heard anything about such an arrangement between the two. And at first blush, this strategy of issuing singles after the GN collection seems downright unnatural, even counterintuitive amid the more stringent guidelines Diamond has adopted. But by moving to a serial publication model, artists would likely be working under a far more reasonable schedule, while Tokyopop has a smaller upfront commitment. We may very well see a continuation of King City, along with other projects placed on hiatus by TP during its restructuring, as single comics first.
This may also be an effort at outreach to direct market retailers, many of whom have long harbored the belief that manga publishers in general have neglected the DM. Will comic shops accept this good-will gesture and give King City a second life? I don’t know, but I think King City is quite deserving of one.

Behold the Kindle DX, with true greyscale, native PDF support, and a new, larger e-ink screen that can comfortably display manga at full size. Plus, some newspapers may be offering the device to subscribers at a subsidized price.
Hmm, time to send another round of emails to Japan, and maybe fiddle around with the PDF presets in InDesign…

According to ADV Nation, ADV has picked up 3 other anime licenses from CPM in addition to Grave of the Fireflies. It’s too bad ADV doesn’t have an adult anime division… (Via Japanator)
Edit: Humberto Saabedra and Akcoll99 both point out that ADV does have an adult label called Happy Carrot. Is there still hope yet for a complete version of Urotsukidoji?

Just a heads up on ADV having an adult anime division: It’s a sublabel called Happy Carrot and they’ve released a few titles like Iyashite Agerun Saiyuki, Guy: Double Target, and Jewel Bem Hunter Lime. Decent stuff but I’m not satisfied until Pink Pineapple decides to open up licensing to the US again.

Quick correction to Humberto- Happy Carrot didn’t release Jewel Bem Hunter Lime. ADV recently re-licensed it after it was dropped by Media Blasters, and as far as I know, it’s being released under the “ADV/Sentai” label, just like Indian Summer and Pet Shop Of Horrors.
ADV’s Happy Carrot label has so far re-released two old Soft Cel titles, Guy: Double Target and Legend Of Lyon Flare, and one new title, Karma Saiyuki.
And yes, Simon, it seems to an active division, with the most recent title, Karma Saiyuki, just being released a few weeks back. Doesn’t seem to be a website for them yet…

Given TRSI/Critical Mass Video’s apparent purchase of the anime18.com domain name and at least some of their licenses (in new packaging), CMV seems a better bet than Happy Carrot for picking up the _Urotsukidoji_ anime. Currently they are releasing CPM/A18′s localizations, but hopefully they will eventually go the route they did with SoftCel Pictures, and entirely reauthor the discs.
Also, it’s “The Karma Saiyuki” and “The Legend of Lyon: Flare”.

I was just typing them on the fly, but yes, you’re right, those are the full names of the two titles.
