Seinen manga magazine to launch online

Christopher Handley has pled guilty to the remaining charges against him.  MangaBlog has the most complete coverage and list of links.

Hey, if fictional depiction of loli is illegal, then what about fictional depiction of implied hanky-panky with facsimiles of  loli?  I.e. Ghost in the Shell Innocence?  Ooh, I think I just gave myself a headache.

Publisher’s Weekly reports that Viz will be starting an English version of the Japanese seinen manga magazine IKKI… except it will be serialized online.  A beta version of the site is currently available.  VizBlog has additional information on upcoming titles, but you can make a few educated guesses of your own by visiting IKKI’s link page. IKKI seems much like the spiritual succesor of PULP, raising hope that Shojo Beat may see a similar reincarnation.  Yes, you should start that letter-writing campaign right now.

Semi-related: I’m sure I’ve mentioned before that I’m generally not price-conscious when it comes to manga, so I may be the last person to have noticed this… Anime On DVD forum goers discover that Viz will be upping the prices on their books.

Forget the whole racial casting/culture appropriation debate about the Avatar movie, this is truly important: Why has the blue arrow been replaced with the seal of the Knights Templar!?

Here’s one of those educational manga that will probably never be published in the US.

Incidentally, take a look at the book cover.  Recognize the style?

  1. IKKI is exciting. I’ve been wanting to see if an on-line manga magazine could work for a long time now, but I’m thinking it’ll be dead in the water if they just waste the ad space on themselves. They have the comics themselves to promote their books right there, sheesh.

    1. They do have a media kit up already, but I’m curious how they managed to have a reader profile when the site has only been up for a few days.

I’d like to advertise hot, sweaty manga pr0n on there, but I bet they’re after electronics/video game/movie money with that kind of demographic spec.

  2. The other most pressing issue of the Avatar movie has got to be the lack of Zuko scar and topknot. You can tell when a movie just is not committed to doing it right when they won’t shave anyone’s head.

    1. Maybe that’s a flashback to his pre-scar days. I’m willing to give them the benefit of the doubt on this one.

But damn it, Aang looks like he’ll be very high on the annoyance meter. It’s Star Wars Episode One all over again.
