Diamond Previews Adult February 2010

Thanks to Diamond for providing the file, which you may download here.

The following is a list of adult manga and manga-oriented titles, extracted from the newest issue of Previews Adult PDF catalog.

Books are generally released two months after the Previews issue in which they are solicited.  Artist homepages are painfully searched for and linked (why don’t all manga publishers link to artist sites?  They’re much better at selling me on a book than another boring PR.)

The reason I cover not only our own books, but those from other adult manga publishers as well, is because adult manga generally have a harder time finding their way into retail, and the wide variety of adult manga may lead some comic shops to overlook items they actually might be able to sell.  One of the best ways to support adult manga of all kinds is to pre-order these books, and show there is a demand for them.

YAOI

TOKYOPOP (BLU)

Two new books, sporting the new price tag…

Once again, a Tokyopop-, Yaoi-only month.  But outside of manga, there are several new comics in this issue, which is always a good thing.

This is also the first time in a long time that none of the DMP labels – 801 Media, June, Doki Doki – appeared in Diamond Previews Adult for two consecutive months.

  1. The cover for “Great Moves” looks fun and appealing. The stories (or scenarios, at least) sound pretty good as far as porn goes too. My [admittedly meagre] collection is lacking in art-porn featuring black folks (aside from an old Tom Of Finland collection I bought a few years ago featuring ONLY black dudes), maybe should see if I can hand my pre-order in late at my comic shop.

I may’ve asked this in the past, can’t recall, but do you know why Class Comics stopped soliciting in Previews Adult ? They’re still churning out books through their site (and through European publisher Bruno Gmunder, looks like) and apparently making a profit, so why would they leave the Previews readership untapped ? Just found they weren’t getting enough sales from it to justify advertising within ? Strange, since they got the cover so many times for a while there (was very surprised and happy to see so much non-Yaoi, guy-on-guy porn on the Previews Adult covers for several months there. Was there a backlash to it from some of the less open-minded straight dudes ?).

    1. You should ask them, but I doubt it’s any backlash. Diamond changed their policies a while ago, not only upping the minimum sales requirement, but also applying that requirement to “offered again” titles. That means it’s extremely hard to get backlist titles into Previews. (Personally, I think it’s a mistake, especially now that Previews Adult is digital only. But eh…) It seems to me that most of Class Comics solicitations would fall into this category.

I would imagine that any of their new comics, if they haven’t moved exclusively to digital downloads as their website appears to suggest, would still get a listing in Previews.
