Long-running ero magazine ends?

Elements is done!  Finished!  Ready for the printer!

ComiPress quotes Japanese website Chuosha on the suspension of Comic PA PI PO.  The ero manga anthology from France Shoin, one of the oldest ero/bishoujo magazines, will cease publication with its December issue.  Can’t quite tell whether there will be a replacement publication, but as primarily a men’s interests publisher, it is hard to imagine France Shoin would pull out of ero manga completely.

France Shoin is a licensor to Icarus Publishing.

I find this pandering news piece on Japanese schoolboy cafes to be totally sexist and degrading to men everywhere.  I demand outrage!

…but seriously, I do wonder why an English-themed cafe doesn’t seem to have actual English servers, especially considering a good lot of them are now unemployed, with some reduced to working on rural farms.

Via The Beat… first-amendment lawfirm Fattorosi and Chisvin notes that whistleblower George Anderson is filing a request for records in Georgia v Gordon Lee, with a particular interest in the amount of money Rome county has spent on the two aborted trials.  Let’s hope this is just the first of many inquiries into the mess.

Meanwhile, Newsarama has yet another interview with Charles Brownstein.

Heisei Democracy has assembled a timeline of recent events in Japan regarding the backlash against ero manga and doujinshi in Japan, which resulted in a surprising number of doujinshi events being cancelled or postponed indefinitely.

  1. Wow, you know, when shota and bondage mags went out of print and stopped producing, I don’t recall getting that upset. :/ I figured, only the best would survive, or find a way to.

Oh, and since you demanded it…

  2. PAPIPO is only notable in that it’s one of the longest-surviving ero magazines, and I think France’s only regularly-published ero magazine. They’re not a big manga publisher by any measure.

But yeah, for every ero mag that ends, 5 will take its place. Although ero manga isn’t quite the growth industry that BL is, if only because it matured long ago…

  3. I’ll be sorry to see Papipo go, if only for the dynamite Biwa Biwa cover art. Figure maker Solid Theater has a model in their production pipeline based on one of those illustrations, I wonder what will become of it…

  4. France Shoin does have a new alternate title that started publishing recently:
    Comic REVOLUTION – bimonthly
    4 issues out so far.

(and as enjoyable a read with equivalent censoring as PAPIPO had)
A few publishers have done successful ‘upgrades’ of sorts over the past couple of years.
Another recent re-entry from another ‘in limbo’ publisher is Comic Geki-Yaba from Mediax

  5. Ah thanks, haven’t seen those mags before.

Wow, Comic Revolution looks… exactly like PAPIPO. =p
